A quotation says “Glabridin 90%.” The approved raw material also says 90%. Can purchasing place the order without another formulation trial?
The assay matches. The grade may not.
Huatai supplies alcohol-soluble and oil-compatible 90% grades. A replacement may be workable, but the percentage alone is not enough to approve it.
Suppose a formula contains 0.20% of a material assayed at 90% Glabridin by weight. Its calculated active input is 0.18%. A replacement with the same verified weight-based assay would deliver the same theoretical amount. That calculation says nothing about how it enters the formula.
Look at the production instructions: Is the current powder pre-dissolved in a solvent? Dispersed into oil? Added before emulsification or during cooling?
These details belong in a glabridin powder enquiry. Without them, two suppliers may quote materials with the same assay but different processing requirements. Also check what “90%” represents. A quantitative assay and an HPLC peak-area percentage should not automatically be treated as equivalent. (Note: High-purity Glabridin powder appears white, but dissolution behavior varies by formulation).
Feng et al. (2017) measured Glabridin’s equilibrium solubility in several solvents and found substantial differences between media. Their results do not establish how a commercial 90% grade behaves in a cosmetic oil.
Huatai’s catalogue describes an oil-soluble 90% grade and presents microscopy and oil-phase appearance observations. In this article, “oil-dispersible” describes its intended incorporation into oil systems. The proportion dissolved or dispersed needs evaluation under the actual conditions of use.
A uniform appearance alone does not prove complete dissolution. Before accepting a supplier’s description, ask which medium was tested, at what concentration and temperature, and how the result was assessed.
The COA identifies batch results. Processing guidance explains how the material is intended to be used. Ask for both to confirm the following details:
| Detail to Confirm | Specific Requirements |
|---|---|
| Grade Identity | Product code and intended incorporation method |
| Glabridin Content | Assay method and reporting basis |
| Remaining Composition | Other constituents and any added carriers |
| Processing | Medium, temperature, mixing and addition sequence |
| Acceptance Criteria | Relevant appearance, distribution and stability requirements |
Use the same calculated active input for the comparison. Check the formula after manufacture, after cooling, and through the planned storage programme (including particle inspection, sedimentation, and active distribution).
Appearance and chemical stability need separate checks. Glabridin retention should be measured with an analytical method suitable for the finished formula. Huatai’s catalogue shows observations through Day 7 for its oil-compatible grade. These are supplier-reported observations, not a prediction of finished-product shelf life.
When buying bulk glabridin powder, the quoted price per kilogram is only part of the comparison. Ask yourself:
Does one grade require additional solvent? A separate preparation vessel? Longer mixing? Would changing the process require another pilot batch?
Include these items where they apply. A higher-priced grade should demonstrate a useful difference in the intended formula; a lower-priced grade should meet the agreed acceptance criteria.
For a Quotation: Provide the current specification, formula type, target addition rate, order quantity, and delivery destination. Include the existing incorporation procedure if the enquiry concerns a replacement. Huatai can provide grade-specific specifications and comparison samples. A product code or redacted COA helps identify which material should be evaluated.
They can provide the same calculated active input if both assays are comparable and weight-based. Their processing and formula performance still need checking.
Potentially, through a suitable solvent system. Compatibility must be checked after incorporation, dilution, cooling and storage.
Follow the instructions for the specific grade. Direct dispersion and pre-dissolution are different procedures and should be recorded accordingly.
Request the specification, sample batch COA, composition information, SDS, and processing guidance. Confirm that subsequent bulk orders will follow the same agreed grade specification.
